Art at Marée
At Marée, art is part of the experience. The collection brings together artists with connections to the Jersey Shore and the wider coastal world. Across painting, printmaking, public art, ceramics and sculpture, their work reflects many of the ideas at the heart of Marée: the ocean, movement, memory, craftsmanship and a strong sense of place.
Laguna Beach, California / Jersey Shore
Painting
Shane McClatchey is a painter whose work explores the relationship between people and the ocean. Originally from Point Pleasant, New Jersey, he is now based in Laguna Beach, California, and maintains a strong connection to the East Coast through his work and time spent as an ocean lifeguard. McClatchey holds both a BFA and MFA from Laguna College of Art & Design.
Classically trained in representational painting, he brings a contemporary sensibility to scenes of water, light and human experience. His paintings often capture a memory or feeling rather than a literal place, using the ocean as both subject and emotional landscape. His work has been exhibited on both coasts and internationally, including Laguna Art Museum and artist residencies in France.

Shayne Boyle is a Jersey Shore painter, sculptor and lifelong waterman whose work is deeply influenced by the sea and the natural world. An impressionist painter and free surfer, Boyle has described himself as a “child of the sea,” drawn to its changing light, movement and color.
Together with artist and designer Alexandra Vaga, Boyle is part of Source and Tradition, the Bay Head studio known for handcrafted ceramics and tableware. His creative practice extends across painting, sculpture and craft, with inspiration ranging from his international surf travels to the seasonal landscapes of New Jersey. His work carries an organic, tactile quality that feels closely connected to coastal life.

Gyotaku surfboard prints
Scott Szegeski is a New Jersey-based surfer and artist known for his distinctive gyotaku work and surf-inspired interpretations of traditional Japanese printing. Using a process rooted in the centuries-old Japanese practice of printing fish, Szegeski began applying ink directly to surfboards, preserving their shapes, textures and histories as one-of-a-kind impressions.
His work brings together Japanese printmaking, surf culture, travel nostalgia and design history. What began with printing his own boards grew into commissions from surfers and collectors who wanted to preserve the memory of meaningful boards and moments in the water. The result is work that feels simultaneously graphic, historic and deeply personal.

Illustration, murals and public art
George Bates is a New Jersey-based artist, illustrator and public-art practitioner whose work moves between drawing, painting and large-scale architectural installations. After many years in New York City, Bates returned to New Jersey and has created numerous permanent and temporary public artworks throughout the United States.
Locally, his work is especially recognizable in Asbury Park, including the large black-and-white mural at the Asbury Ocean Club. His public projects range from hand-painted murals to fired-glass installations and integrated architectural works. Bates' imagery is energetic, layered and narrative-driven, often transforming a wall or public space into a visual story.
Bay Head, New Jersey

Olivia Hartgers is a New Jersey artist and designer whose work combines illustration, watercolor, graphic design and surf culture. Based in the Bay Head area, her portfolio includes custom artwork, surfboard art, wedding crests, identity work and coastal-inspired illustration.
Hartgers studied graphic design and has applied that foundation across both fine-art and commercial projects. Her work often draws from familiar Jersey Shore imagery - surfboards, local architecture, flora, fauna and maritime details - giving it a playful, personal sense of place. Her ability to move between hand-painted artwork and design makes her work particularly suited to hospitality and lifestyle spaces.

Oil painting
Pablo Tauler is a painter whose work is strongly informed by surfing, observation and time spent in the ocean. His oil paintings explore atmosphere, movement and the visual impressions that emerge during long periods of waiting for waves.
Tauler has described the imagery surrounding him in the water as filtering into his painting practice. His works often emphasize immediacy: some are completed in a single sitting in an effort to retain the energy and sensation of the original experience. The resulting paintings connect abstraction, landscape and the shifting visual language of the sea.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Ceramic sculpture and painting
Joyce Stolaroff is a Santa Fe-based artist working in painting and sculpture, with a particularly distinctive body of ceramic work centered on dogs. After many years working primarily in painting and printmaking, Stolaroff discovered clay and found it especially suited to the expressive, dimensional character of her animal subjects.
Her sculptures are intended to honor the dignity, companionship and emotional presence of dogs. Rather than approaching clay as functional pottery, she uses it as a sculptural medium, creating characters with personality and physical presence. Her practice is warm, expressive and deeply rooted in the emotional connection between people and animals.
